Be sure to dig up sod and other plants below the roots to prevent new shoots from coming up later in your rock garden. Smaller complementary stones or gravel placed around the larger rocks will unify the design. The idea is to place flowers that will draw you to come in closer.
The intent was to create the rocks that look as if they are part of an overall rock structure that was naturally exposed to weathering while constructing your rock garden. Keep color in mind. Clear the area of grass or other organic material if necessary.
